Our Team

Dr. Simon Fox is a senior lecturer in criminology and leader of the undergraduate and post graduate Criminology programmes at Southampton Solent University, UK. A former police officer, Simon has an MA in Criminal Justice from Southampton University and a PhD (Law and Criminology) from Nottingham Trent University.

Simon has a particular interest in the investigation of transnational crime, Cyber crime and intelligence analysis, the development of cooperative and common training / education methods to investigate cyber crime, concepts of accountability, and human rights law and philosophy. Simon was previously employed by Cambridge University as a research assistant, where he researched the relationship between the use of drugs and crime.

Simon has over 15 years experience as a lecturer in Law, Criminology and Policing and he has created and lead the validation of various undergraduate and postgraduate Criminology degree courses. Simon is a former member of Southampton Solent University’s Academic Standards and Development Committee and is currently an External Examiner for the University of West London, and Bedford University. In addition to being an advisor / consultant to organisations and agencies such as the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) Criminal Records Office- ACRO, the National Crime Agency (NCA), and Hampshire Police (on subjects such as DNA Retention, the sharing of data, and the transnational investigation of cybercrime) Simon also sits on the Advisory Board of the not-for-profit community interest company Sustainable Criminal Justice Solutions where he is involved in various research projects in partnership with the UK Government and the public sector.

Simon has extensive experience in obtaining funding and organising conferences in his areas of expertise, such as: the Becoming Cyber Savvy Conference (2014) co-funded and hosted by Southampton Solent University and ACRO, the Serious and Organised Crime Conference (2013), and the History of Policing Conference (2012) both co-funded by Southampton Solent University and Hampshire Police, and held at Southampton Solent University and Hampshire Police Training HQ respectively.

Simon continues to lecture and build upon his research experience in transnational policing cooperation.
